From our 2024 Fall Newsletter Heartbeats from Honduras
Digna Esperanza lives in the mountains, far from any access to medical care. When she learned a medical mission team would be visiting a village near her daughter’s house, she knew it was her chance to seek help.
Arriving at the remote clinic with a 2.5 x 3 cm venous ulcer on her leg, she left with much more than just an antibiotic.
Thanks to your ongoing support of the medical referral program, Digna received a referral and the assurance that more care was on the way. The team acted quickly.
A specialist from a partner organization provided a consultation, teaching Digna how to care for the wound. An in-country physician sent the necessary wound care medications, and Digna stayed with her family to continue her treatment while waiting for the next scheduled team.
This was not just a minor wound—it had the potential to turn into a life-threatening infection. But because of your generosity and dedication, Digna received timely care and avoided a serious health crisis.
“You are the hands of God,” Digna said. “I am blessed that people living so far away care so much about me. I will never forget how you helped me heal.”
Your commitment makes stories like Digna’s possible. Thank you for the vital role you play in bringing healing and hope to those in need.
