Rolling through the Challenges
It’s been a tough year for our vehicles! No matter how well we maintain them, the muddy, pothole-filled roads take a serious toll, and every single vehicle has already been in the shop this year. The wear and tear quadruples under these conditions, making transportation one of our biggest ongoing challenges.
But despite the breakdowns and unexpected delays, our teams have been incredible. As David shared recently, he’s most grateful for the way teams have handled these interruptions—with grace, patience, and a sense of humor. We know delays can be frustrating, but when a team embraces the unexpected, it eases the stress for everyone and keeps the mission moving forward.
To every team that has navigated the craziness of broken vehicles this year—THANK YOU! Your resilience and flexibility make all the difference. With the rainy season behind us, we’re hopeful for smoother travels ahead.
Here’s to the road ahead—potholes and all!

Extending Care Beyond Our Villages
While our mission primarily focuses on providing medical care in the Department of Colón, we’re sometimes able to extend our reach even further—and this month, we had a special opportunity to do just that.

Roger was especially grateful when a team held a half-day clinic in La Ceiba at the church right next door to our office. Though our neighbors in the city have better access to healthcare, many still struggle financially, making this clinic a true blessing for those in need.
We’re thankful for our partnership with the church and look forward to returning in the future. Every act of care—no matter where it takes place—makes a difference!

Expanding Vision Care in Colón
Gandy had the incredible opportunity to serve alongside doctors from the WVU Vision School, witnessing firsthand the life-changing impact of restoring sight.
“It was a little overwhelming to work with them as they gave people back their sight!” Gandy shared.
Building a sustainable vision care program takes time, but we are making steady progress. Last year, we added a water distillation machine needed for the autoclave to sterilize instruments. This year, the team brought a slit lamp, a vital tool for eye exams!
Thanks to dedicated teams and generous supporters, the future of vision care is looking brighter than ever!
At every staff meeting, we take a moment to reflect on the great things that have happened in our lives over the past few weeks. It helps us gain perspective, stay motivated, and refocus on the mission ahead. But let’s be honest—sometimes it’s hard to think of something truly great.

Finding Gratitude in Every Moment
Not for Ben. Every time he’s asked, his answer is the same:

“I am healthy. I am happy. And the world is beautiful.”
Ben has been part of CHHF for nearly 30 years—since the very beginning. His unwavering optimism and dedication have made this mission better in countless ways.
Thank you, Ben, for reminding us to appreciate the simple, beautiful things in life.
