The Barnes/Johnson team was full of medical providers, two dentists, and an ophthalmologist! Their busy week included clinic days in Limón, Whispering Hope, Icoteas, and Plan de Flores. Together they served 788 patients with much needed medical, dental, and vision care. In addition, the team was able to distribute sunglasses and reading glasses.
Co-leader Emily Barnes told us her trip highlights included:
Emily Barnes, co-team leader
- The little girls at Plan de Flores who asked my name, told me my skin was too hot, and were surprised that the English speakers understood each other;
- Getting to be in the same room with Shanaya —we’ve been working together in telehealth for over a year;
- Witnessing my daughter’s joy working with the dentists;
- Sharing this week and this work with an incredibly hard-working, intelligent, positive, team-oriented, and kind group of people.
Emily also noted she was glad she went outside her comfort zone and spent a long layover in Miami on her way home. “The sunshine, the Caribbean, the food…so much to be grateful for.”
Mission weeks always provide opportunities to learn and grow!
